There are main 2 basic class:

1. Robot by Locomotion
2. Robot by Application

1. Robot by Locomotion:

 The shape of the robot is the most basic approach to define a type  and it is relative with it's locomotion system. Lets classify further:

• Wheeled Robots

• Stationary Robots

• Legged Robots

• Snake Robots

• Swimming Robots

• Modular Robots

• Rolling Robotic balls 

• Micro Robots   

   2. Robot by Application:

It is a hybrid-system and we use to perform an applications task, so in this type we don't care about shape,

so there are very application in industry, home and military.Lets classify further:

• Military Robots

• Industrial Robots

• Domestic Robots

• Medical Robots

• Space Robots

• Hobby and Competition
